Mike Johnston is an international hockey professional who has been a great developmental factor behind the success of the Vancouver Canucks over the past 6 years.
Mike began his head coaching career at Carmrose Lutheran College in 1982 and then moved to the University of New Brunswick, where he compiled three consecutive first-place finishes and two McAdam Division titles from 1989 to 1994. He won the Saint-John telegraph-Journal Coach of the Year award in 1993, and was named 3M Coach of the Year in 1994.
He's had a very successful international career in the Canada' National Teams all the way from juniors to the Team Canada men's team. He won bronze and silver medals with Canada's National Team at the 1995 and 1997 World Championships and a gold medal in 1988. In season 1998-99, his responsibilities included being the head coach and the GM for the Canada's National Men's Team. In 1998 he also acted as an assistant coach at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan.
Mike is internationally highly respected speaker and a lecturer in ice-hockey coaching seminars worldwide. Mike Johnston holds a master's degree in Coaching Science.
